Greetings one and all,

Tanya is hosting the Anna Ruth Kipping Retrospective, on Jul 25,26 1pm-5pm at Tanya's home in Emeryville. Anna Ruth and Tanya founded the Blue Teapot School of Chinese Influenced American Art.

Anna Ruth had a blue teapot which was the frequent subject of their paintings. Tanya, Anna Ruth, and others often had painting sessions around Anna Ruth's kitchen table, or in her back yard native plant garden. She lived on Melrose Ave. on Mt. Davidson, with a great view overlooking southern San Francisco and the bay. When the weather was too cold, wet, or windy, the Blue Teapot School often sat at her kitchen table, painting wildflowers from her garden, the famous blue teapot, or anything else that struck their fancy.

Many of her paintings started as pen (ink) sketches, but otherwise Anna Ruth worked almost exclusively in watercolor.

Anna Ruth was also a poet. She was published in Tarot Haiku and other publications. Tanya has called one of Anna Ruth's poems "the best haiku-inspired poem in the English language", and Tanya's painting of that poem will be featured in this show.
